The Four Fountains De-Stress Spa in Kolkata invited us over a few months back to review their services, due to various reasons we couldn't make it, but when they got in touch again we knew we had to go.
We chose to go to the Shakespeare Sarani branch near Park Street. In their own words, they have "over 20 spa therapies for de-stressing, de-toxification, immunity and beauty at surprisingly affordable prices."
We were offered green tea when we arrived (also when the session was over we were offered tea and water) and were asked a bunch of questions to determine how stressed we are. We both fall under the "highly stressed out" category. We didn't argue with that. We decided on our treatments and headed onto separate rooms.

Anybody who has been to a spa knows exactly how freaking relaxing it is.
I realized one thing; all kinds of body image issues fly out the window
when the masseuse starts working their magic on you. I refused to fall asleep as I wanted to experience the whole thing in a conscious state, but I was so relaxed I mumbled when my masseuse, Pratibha (I think that's what her name was, I am really bad with names, but she was oh so good!) asked me if the pressure she was applying was okay. At one point I might have just given her a thumbs up instead of an actual verbal response, but I will deny I did it. I opted for the "Sea-Weed Body Wrap" as I had tanned quite badly. It started with a coffee and cane sugar body polish, after which I was wrapped up like one of Dexter's victims with the sea weed mask on. I was just lying there for about 20 minutes all alone, listening to the soothing music, thinking of the oddest of things. I had to shower twice since it is a two step process, there are individual showers attached to the therapy rooms that ensures complete privacy.

I had opted for an hour long Aromatherapy Relaxation Massage which promised to ease stress and was in accordance with the suggested spa treatments as per my stress diagnostic test. I have had spa treatments before and was singularly charmed by the congenial behaviour of the staff. I was directed to a room where my masseuse for the afternoon, Ranjhita, was waiting with further instructions. She pointed out the (disposable, so no hygiene issues there) clothes I had to change into and left the room to give me privacy as I disrobed. The whole process of letting a stranger massage your less than perfect body can be a slightly daunting prospect for the uninitiated but I am sure that all your fears will be allayed by the amiable and professional approach of your personal attendant. Ranjhita , in my case, was quite simply superlative. The oil was massaged carefully and patiently into my sore muscles after I had specified soft-medium pressure level. The soft percussionist beats of the music which ever so often morphed seamlessly into a lower pitch and tempo, the ambient lights, the obvious expertise of my masseuse almost lulled me to sleep. She seemed to instinctively understand which portion of my limbs required extra attention and acted accordingly. Following the massage I was asked to shower where she pointed out the controls for hot and cold water and I might have grinned at her a tad oddly, still in a haze from the massage.
All we could think of while changing back into our clothes was how to fit in another appointment within the next 4 weeks of classes, exams and other extraneous stuff that plague our schedules. This is an excellent spa centre where the staff is courteous, the therapists skilled and our experience was most certainly enriching.
Take this test to know how stressed you are. Then head over to The Four Fountains Spa. They are located in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Bangalore, Pune, Goa and Chennai.

ReplyDeleteIt was. Go book an appointment now.
DeleteJealous. The spas here are expensive, and although I did give one a try through groupon last summer, it was mostly miss.
ReplyDeleteUsually when someone uses coupons the service provided at places is not that great, I have heard...but, I read a review that the people at Four Fountains were equally courteous to the person with the coupon.
