Suddenly This Rain

“I went to bed and woke in the middle of the night thinking I heard someone cry, thinking I myself was weeping, and I felt my face and it was dry. Then I looked at the window and thought: Why, yes, it's just the rain, the rain, always the rain, and turned over, sadder still, and fumbled about for my dripping sleep and tried to slip it back on.”
~
Ray Bradbury, Green Shadows, White Whale

“Suddenly this defeat.
This rain.
The blues gone gray
And the browns gone gray
And yellow
A terrible amber.
In the cold streets
Your warm body.
In whatever room
Your warm body.
Among all the people
Your absence
The people who are always
Not you.
I have been easy with trees
Too long.
Too familiar with mountains.
Joy has been a habit.
Now
Suddenly
This rain.”
~
Jack Gilbert

"..and somewhere in her mind it's always raining a slow and endless drizzle."
~
Neil Gaiman

“Being soaked alone is cold. Being soaked with your best friend is an adventure.”
 ~
Emily Wing Smith, Back When You Were Easier to Love

Calcutta is raining, but I hope the sun is shining on you somewhere
...

  2. Loved your tribute to the rains ! I love the rains too much and wish that the sun does not shine..I find it soothing as well as mysterious.
But it is also true that the poor people have a hard time during this season, their clothes won't dry { they don't have a cloth dryer like us }, and those who commute long distances by foot...life becomes difficult for them...
I love your captures, particularly the shot of the slow dripping of raindrops and the last one, the blurry image of rain.

  8. Rain makes me so happy sometimes. And other times, so so so sad. It's bright and sunny here even though it's supposed to rain. Sending a bit of the sunshine your way!

  11. I love rain (so, of course, the pictures) but I don't know why people feel sad about fall/autumn and those rainy days. I'm really into looking on 'crying windows' and hot chocolate - it's the best time in year <3

    1. i love the rain..no other can make me feel the way rain does..but countless hours of humid weather with the rank smell of everything that won't dry off properly gets to me..i prefer torrential downpours followed by clear skies..with wind i can breathe in and feel alive!

  17. Neil Gaiman and Ray Bradbury are some of my favorites (and one inspired the other significantly). Enjoy the rain if it's as beautiful as all those words. -- J xx
