Durga Puja 2014 - Trends Spotted

I saw a good deal of Normcore fashion this year while pandal hopping. But, I am not really sure how many of them consciously dressed up that way. Normcore fashion is where people dress up in a normal way to look same rather than stand out. Read this *article* to get an idea of what is Normcore as documented by artist Hans Eijkelboom.

paan stall outside Badamtal Durga PandalBut I did not capture the denim on denim and other Normcore craziness during Durga Puja for you! Here are 3 of the biggest trends I spotted this year. All my fashionable friends wore gorgeous sarees every day. Well, of course I didn't. I did wear an ethnic kurta with a beautiful printed vest on Ashtami. And I gorged on a sumptuous Italian fare at Spaghetti Kitchen that day. Also watched Haider on the first day of release and loved every bit of it.I wrapped up that awesome day by promptly falling down wearing flat shoes and tearing my beautiful red leggings on the way back.

Printed leggings were everywhere, they were mostly paired with bum covering long tops and flats

the Anarkali salwar kameez was everywhere! It was a bit weird how many of these I spotted this time.

Kolkata Fashion Bloggers
No one wore the saree better or more fashionably than city bloggers Soumi and Anupriya DG. Soumi draped her saree over leggings! It doesn't get more trendsetting than that. Love Anu's necklace and clutch. Learn how to put a twist on your traditionals from these 2 ladies.

People really do forget all about calories during these 5 days

And with this I wish you a Subho Bijaya and Happy Dussehra!

Here are a few of my favourite shots from Sashthi and Saptami.

Puja Shopping

It's that time of the year again. Durga Puja is just round the bend and people have already started their shopping. It will be a massive blow to all our bank balances because we do not just buy things for ourselves, we gift things to our families and we spend like crazy all through the 5 days of Puja. This is why I believe smart shopping is very important for all fashion lovers on a budget. If you follow me on twitter and facebook then you must have seen me post about how I got massive discounts while shopping on Jabong. I got 35% off on my whole bill and also got 10% cash back. Isn't that sweet? Avail these Jabong coupons from 27coupons. Never hit the 'confirm order' button before checking what deals you might be missing out on. I almost did and I am sharing this with you because I don't want you to spend more than you have to.
Happy shopping!

Calcutta Style Spotting - Ashtami Special

She is the lead singer in the Alt/Pop/Rock/Reggae/Ska/Bollywood kitsch band Ganesh Talkies, Suyasha SenGupta. I snapped this photo at a house party where they were performing. I love her style. She incidentally happens to be from my college.
Anyway how about incorporating that flower in the hair for your Ashtami look?
Let me know what you think.
Happy Puja!

Simple Saptami Style

A simple chart to give you an idea about what I think you can try to wear today on Saptami. It's Durga Puja again guys! I have blogged about it before. So do check those posts out here.

Tip - If you don't want to get/have a tattoo then put on a single anklet. It's kind of sexy.
And surround yourself with crazy fairy lights to jazz it up :D

Durga Puja 2012 Photo Diary Part 2

As mentioned before I am back with just a few more photos. Today is Lakshmi Puja and college opens in a couple of days with an array of exams and presentation which I am in a very good mind not to give.

Durga Puja 2012 Photo Diary Part 1

For those 6 days (panchami to dashami) everything 'real' was in suspension. It was just like we had let go of time and were in a world of our very own. Endless adda sessions, dressing up in new clothes and eating like the world will end after 24th. "What day of the week is it anyway?" got the answer "Who cares anyhow?!"
The whole city was an endless tunnel of lights. Every para was engrossed in their own puja pandals. Every one of us had plans to spend the days with friends of recent hours, of hours past and family we hadn't seen in a while.
But it all ends, every year it does, and we wonder every year how the days went by so fast. But the lazy days continue till at least Lakshmi Puja (which is this Monday I think). I just remember sleeping the whole day yesterday.

Outfit Of The Day -Panchami

I wore this on Panchami, i.e friday..Feeling a bit Kallol Dutta meets countess of gloom..I love the skirt! When I saw it hanging in the store I instantly thought of Sabyasachi Mukherjee and the flow of his garments. I may look a bit crazy in these photos but I forgot or smile or soften my features.

I am in a bit of a hurry now. Jetting out for another puja day out. It's Maha Saptami after all.
Bye!

Streets and Sights - Once Again

The durga pujas have officially started again.
[read my other posts related to durga puja *here*]
I picked up my first designer kurta from Anupriya this morning (will feature it soon here). Went out with a bunch of friends and gorged on chocolate. We even did chocolate shots!

chocolate shots..I wouldn't have minded a bit of tequila in it :P

Went out with my mum and sister for a couple of hours this evening. I am looking forward to sharing all the photos! I am sharing just a few. Can't wait for tomorrow to start guys!

Maddox Square; truth be told I didn't want to go there. I thought this was the Triangular Park puja before getting in. I hate the crowd here. You always bump into someone from school!

just to give you an idea of the crowd we saw today only

Bye!
