Accessories To Lust Over

A good piece of accessory is something I can lust over. A piece of clothing may look great on someone I adore, but make me look like a potato. Accessories are definitely more versatile, one-size-fits-all bundles of joy. A single piece of accessory can show off your personality and distinguish between two people wearing the same dress. I have made a lust list for your pleasure. Ogle, enjoy and buy them if you love. They are all from this extremely affordable website called Dresslink. They have a whole range of things from women's wear, kid's wear, bags, shoes as well as DIY decoration items like studs and rivets. I found a Harry Potter themed bracelet and necklace there. That's a definite win in my book.

We are moving to a new address. This will effectively be the last post on this blog address. I have spent a good 5 years right here. It's time to move on now. Wish me luck with the transition. And see you on the other side.
Keep track of the blog on the facebook page :)

My DressIn Wish List

I love a website that offers a range of items that has a little something for everyone. Dressin offers something for the graphic tee lovers as well as the floral lovers. They offer some lovely dresses, tops, bottoms, outerwear and even lingerie at pretty inexpensive prices. And on top of that, they have a super sale going on right now. I recently received a package from them and I can assure you of speedy delivery (ordered with DHL) and decent quality products. Here are some items I really love from their collection. Check out to see if you love something for yourself here. I am sure you will find a great slogan tee or a fabulous party top from here.

How To Survive: December

The year is about to end and the fashion world is in a tizzy, declaring the upcoming trends and already looking back on the best fashion moments of 2014. Let me give you a quick fashion guide on how to survive this December like the fashionable creatures like we are.
The Burberry colour block blanket poncho has been declared the it jacket this fall. But, not everyone can get their hands on a $1395 worth of jacket just to keep warm in style. So, like a good angel I have compiled a list of chic wool ponchos that will help you sail through December feeling like a style goddess. If the very Brit brand's style is not up your alley then take inspiration from Valentino's embroidered boho blanket ponchos that came out on the Paris catwalk last season. And a bit of this and that you need to style up a storm on a daily basis.
Psst - If your Indian mother sees your blanket poncho and starts using it as her shawl don't be very shocked.

Blanket Poncho
Asos ($106), Free People ($168), AX Paris ($53.20), Topshop ($68), Myntra (INR1079), Asos ($135), Forever21 ($32.80).

Team your stylish blanket ponchos with plaid loafers, pointy-toe boots or these to-die-for Stella McCartney platform brogues(look at ebay for cheaper options). Boho is in style for the chilly season as well, so, indulge in a fringed bag. A metallic clutch is must-have for all your parties and a classic bag is essential for all your business looks(this one is the Kate Spade Cedar Street Maise one. Isn't it stunning?). I am digging pom-pom beanies this season and I will be sporting them a lot this month. Invest in an infinity scarf and knee high socks, they are so much fun to style! You can pair these socks with shorts or skirts and flash just a tiny amount of skin while you stay all warm and fuzzy. And you just need a body moisturiser - need I say why? You cannot just moisturise your face, you body needs it too to avoid flaky, dry skin.

how to survive december

I had so much fun researching and writing this post! Hope you found something fun and interesting here to prepare for and survive this December.

Puja Shopping

It's that time of the year again. Durga Puja is just round the bend and people have already started their shopping. It will be a massive blow to all our bank balances because we do not just buy things for ourselves, we gift things to our families and we spend like crazy all through the 5 days of Puja. This is why I believe smart shopping is very important for all fashion lovers on a budget. If you follow me on twitter and facebook then you must have seen me post about how I got massive discounts while shopping on Jabong. I got 35% off on my whole bill and also got 10% cash back. Isn't that sweet? Avail these Jabong coupons from 27coupons. Never hit the 'confirm order' button before checking what deals you might be missing out on. I almost did and I am sharing this with you because I don't want you to spend more than you have to.
Happy shopping!
:)

Clarity

I am having one of those rare moments of clarity. I know I am reading a good book I like when I have this urge to stop reading and immediately start writing. Writing something positive, and funny or at least a tiny bit sarcastic. I scratched the word 'good' because if 5 years spend to acquire 2 arts degrees, that are largely turning out to be useless in getting any appropriate jobs, taught me anything it's that art isn't good or bad. Any art is artist's expression of what they are thinking. How well it gets executed is whole another issue. I digress. I have had a mental block. A writer's block, if you want to call it that. Then my computer, like every other good thing in my life chose to die on me. It died so completely and with such utter finality that the computer fixer guy couldn't keep it breathing for even a few days. I am sitting in front of my sister's laptop in my old floral shorts bought for 50 bucks(that's like $1) from some roadside vendor, a huge shirt my dad got free with his Wrangler jeans and 3 day old un-watered messy bun thinking how I can own it all. I have been doing a lot of thinking lately, not that I am not spending my time over thinking some thing or the other on any given day, this is special. I am still trying to figure out what I want to be. I am at an age where I have most friends settled in their jobs, some going back for further degrees, some biting the marriage stick and others spending nights blacked out after a lot of boozing. I am doing none of those things. I am still trying to figure out what I love doing and if I can pursue that as a career. Meanwhile I am trying to stay financially independent enough so that my parents don't question all my soul searching this year. Needless to say I laugh at those who say they have willpower because they stayed off shopping for a month or so. I am made of iron when it comes to budgeting nowadays. I am giving myself a year for long term clarity's sake.
Hope you all have been doing well while I was away.

Indian Summer

Summer has not yet arrived in many parts of the world, but my goodness it is hot here! The shorts are out, the sweats and jackets have been shoved way back in the dark corners of the closet. And I found some shirts (and a very short dress) that will look super cool in this summery heat. In India, we have skipped spring it seems and have directly gone onto heat that puts blisters on the skin.

Indian Summer

I have been lusting for that hollow winged tee for a while now. But I am not so sure how I can wear it without the right inner. And I love the elephant print dress so much! The ScarJo and Monroe tees are the right amount of fun and funky. And they are all on a sale right now.
Which one would you go for?

Polka Dotted Pants

I generally do not order bottoms online. I am very skeptical about sizing. But, what is funny is that a couple of weeks ago I realised I have been wearing the wrong pant size for over a year. I had convinced myself that I was 2 sizes larger, and when the pants started feeling roomier soon enough I thought it was because I had lost weight (by doing nothing just so you know). I took a leap of faith and ordered these pants from Romwe, I love the polka dotted pattern and can't wait till it arrives. Keeping my fingers crossed about size. Here's a little mood board I chalked up on polyvore.

Smock Dress And Sick Days

When I am stuck home (read, stuck on a chair/bed) because of some stupid illness I spend the 1st day in a haze. No eating (do tic-tacs count?), binge watching favourite shows (it was Sherlock and Veronica Mars yesterday) and then just knocking myself out before 9pm with a good dose of awful tasting medication. 2nd day starts with trying to do something worthwhile even if I am again missing classes and have an intense feeling of lightheadedness (I am currently spelling every other word incorrectly and going back to check it). I try to read and instead wrapping a gift for a friend, I am also wondering if I can attend her party tomorrow. The day has started with reading about Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, Arvind Kejriwal's responses to Delhi Police and the NaMo gang campaigning for the PM post. My head hurts already, I need food, but I can't even look at photos of food, hence I have 2 restaurant reviews pending for Zomato (I can't think about food or look at it, what's the point in trying to write about it now). I realize I am rambling, I do that a lot, I am not a very good writer, or speaker, hence all the rambling. I love Woody's(Allen of course) characters so much because of this. Not that he is not a good writer or director, unlike me he is rather gifted despite his perceived perversions, or maybe because of them and his characters ramble. I like people who do the good kind of rambling. I shall stop now. Have a good day. P.S. - Someone buy me this dress.

Leather Jacket Woes

I have wanted a (faux) leather biker jacket forever. I don't even own any proper jackets/blazers, I only have tons of cardigans. Recently my best friend got hold of this amazing leather jacket from Kazo and that got me into thinking that I cannot keep wearing just cardigans, I am not in school anymore. I need a good jacket/blazer for the winter and saying, "It never gets that cold here," is not going to cut it anymore.
But it is very important to get the right silhouette and fit.
Which one of these would you choose and why?

Get them here - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
(all links lead to Rome...errr...Choies I mean)
I think the 4th one would be interesting since it is such a vampy, wintry garnet shade, the 5th one does feel like cheating what with the cape-y front but, I like the mixed media thing going on with it. As for the 1st three, I really like them all even though they are all of different styles.

Going Green

I have fallen for green, forest greens and jewel tones. My last two outfit posts would be a testimony to that. I am in love with this vintage faux fur dress. I even created an outfit around it. And speaking of my green obsession, I even got this beanie recently. Can't wait till the weather is cool enough so that I can wear it outside.
Ugh! Wish I was wearing this right now!

Simple Saptami Style

A simple chart to give you an idea about what I think you can try to wear today on Saptami. It's Durga Puja again guys! I have blogged about it before. So do check those posts out here.

Tip - If you don't want to get/have a tattoo then put on a single anklet. It's kind of sexy.
And surround yourself with crazy fairy lights to jazz it up :D

Loose Trench vs Fall Jacket

Spring trends for this year have loose trench coats on the radar. I found a hooded one, it is asymmetric as well with a plush wide belt. I would love to wear this with thigh high socks and shorts. But then I came across this fall jacket with 80s reminiscent wide shoulders and giant lapels with the right amount of edge.It has got all these studs and zippers too. I sort of created a mood board to get a feel of how I would want to style them.
Which one would you go for and how would you style it?

Ultimate Comfort

When it comes to days where I just couldn't be bothered to dress up I tend to reach for the batwing sleeves I have lying in my closet. The loose overall thing just hangs on you, no pressure to sit straight or walk without slouching. I just throw it on top of a white or black vest, don on the ever dependable blue jeans (baggy or skinny depends on the mood), step into my flats and grumble out the door. Well all this is for days where I have to go somewhere where pyjamas or hippie pants are not acceptable.
So this my ultimate comfort outfit for when I would rather curl up with ice cream, a good book and some good TV show.
What is your ultimate comfort outfit for days you cannot completely slouch it out?

Pastel, Most Prominently

You would not be very surprised at what I am about to tell you. I do not really own any clothes in pastel shades. I do have pastel nail colours, but lately I do not even wear those. Do I hear cumulative sighs or a disgruntled grunts? Was it really a surprise? No? Never mind with all these questions. So, I got thinking while browsing e-shops that if I did own anything pastel what it would be. It had to be something where I will not be able to cheat and wear something black in the mix. I also spotted a rainbow a couple of days back so that may have had something to do with this stroke of inspiration.
Dresses ← that was the answer. I mean I could throw in black shoes or nails in the mix but the overall look will have pastel most prominently.
Look in your wardrobe. What is that one thing you do not have? You cannot name something you hate, it is obvious you will not have something you hate to begin with. Look for something that you maybe do not love that much, but that your wardrobe is crying out for. A balanced wardrobe will have options that can be worn for any occasion with as many different dress codes. Your wardrobe should have 80% things you love to wear, 10% basics and the other 10% which comprise of a mix and match of the rest of the things you love, but never remember to spend on and then frump around when you do not have that something to wear to that certain somewhere. Makes sense? I think it does.
