I have wanted a floor length kurta dress for almost 3 years. When I spotted a woman wearing an Ethiopian style cotton gown in a mall a couple of months back I decided to take things in my own hands. Or rather seek out more expert designer hands to accomplish the task soon. So, I reached out to my friend Anupriya DG who is not only one of the pioneer Calcutta fashion bloggers, but also the owner of a fashionable designer label Howrah Bridge. I had asked her to design the dress in a way she thinks would look best on me; all I told her was that I don't want it to make me look like a sack of potatoes. The compliments that came my way were proof that I do not resemble anything potato-ey in this gorgeous dress. I am wearing it here with leggings because it was kinda pretty cold that day. And I don't know why I haven't featured this backpack on the blog yet. I have been carrying it around everywhere with me for the past year. It goes with everything!

I Will Hold On Hope

I love the sound of Mumford & Sons. If you haven't heard of them, then please do. Especially check out this song that I linked to. Even the video is just so charming. I have been listening to them for so long. But, only saw this delightful video after someone shared it with me a few days back. It is just the right dose of kooky that I love so much.

Coming to the outfit, I should mention this is my first true outfit photoshoot that has been shot outdoors. I was so bored of photographing in my room (even though it serves as a lovely backdrop). Unlike other times I did not feel awkward posing for my photographer in such a public place. Is it age or comfort? I don't know. I am getting old, that much is for sure. I get back pains way too often. Then again my perennial craving for all things chocolate has increased even more. I refuse to believe that is a sign of ageing.  At 5'2" I console myself, saying I am average height. But, one thing I realised after looking at these photos is that I am painfully short. Given how dreamy and bohemian I feel just looking at the outfit, I think the photos go perfectly with that theme.

About the clothes - I love this crochet cardigan to death. I think it is the prettiest and most delicate thing I own. The polka dotted pants are from Romwe. At first they were quite a disappointment, because even though it was mentioned they are harem pants, they looked way more fitted on the website. But, I have come to love it. These are now my stylish pyjamas. I wore these to work this week and felt so effing cool thinking "Yay I am so cool, I wear pyajamas and sneakers to office!"
I had also done a pop art-ish eyeliner look with this which unfortunately was ruined by the time we got around to the shoot. I am planning on doing a tutorial sort of on that look soon.

Sheinside - It's A Crochet Fantasy

This beautiful crochet cardigan was sent by Sheinside. I absolutely love it. But, it is quite delicate so I won't be wearing it that often. It arrived within 15 days after ordering. The pattern is very beautiful and it gave me an excuse to bring out this maxi dress which I hadn't touched in months. I am wearing the corset with it. And went with a very bohemian, feminine style for this look.

Green Knit Dress Rules!

So guys Durga Puja is over. This is just a photo I am sharing of me and my best friend's sister (she is the coolest sister ever). I wore this on Saptami. I know most people wear Indian, but I prefer to stick to western wear (the reason my style ideas have been western inspired, though this was more Bollywood kitsch), sometimes making an exception for Ashtami.

Stark black and white stripes like these remind me of "Beetlejuice". I am no stranger to strangeness and weirdness. I enjoy watching films which have characters who are totally weird and wacko. I am always the one saying the wrong things with a perpetual inner monologue going on inside my head, I am the one with issues with authority, I am the one down on luck - a perfect combo for a story's protagonist who wins it all at the end. My end is nowhere near. So, let's move on.

I don't think this look is very wacko, it is slightly unusual though. Some of you took a guess at what I paired my new shoes with in this post, but you all thought I would pair it with shorts. Now I liked Aditi's guess, high tops and a saree? Would be pretty cool.

 I don't agree with most fashion rules, as you may know so I have no problem in wearing either horizontal stripes or sneakers with a dress. I love this dress on me. I love these shoes on me too, I have already dirtied it just like any proper sneaker should be.

Somethings New

Some new things I got this last month...I got this blue ombre t-shirt from Jabong because I am in dire need of casual stuff to wear to college and sweat through them the whole day and also because it has "Made in 90s" written on it so loud and clear...and it goes with my recent obsession with the colour blue in everything..I just need to get my hands on some blue hair colour and then I will say "the rest was history kids..". I know someday I will find those temporary colours and I will colour my hair blue, green, purple..

 I got all this on sale.. I really like the pocket detail in the striped tee. I remember I had gone crazy about having pockets in everything I wear at a point of time and got a pocket sewn into a short kurt I had, loved wering but hated that it didn't have pockets. Don't look at a picture of my face like that, I am not crazy.
 I absolutely love the Hamsa & Ankh necklace, got it for a whopping 70% off. I have been wanting to buy feather earrings for so long but I am at a loss at what to pair these with. As you can see no other colour beats my obsession for black and they just don't seem right with the stuff I have.. ..
 In other news I saw Alain Resnais' "Night and Fog" and I cannot describe in words what an impact it had on me. I went gaga over "Hiroshima Mon Amour" when I saw it. Resnais is definitely one of my most favourite film makers. You have to see and understand his language and the questions he raises to know what I am talking about.

What do you think I am trying to show here? Apart from my highly innovative ways of posing for the camera what else is common?
I bought these earrings and I love them. It's been long since I got something from Accessorize. I think I have mentioned it before how I don't like spending the huge bucks on anything I won't necessarily use that much. I can't justify paying a 1000 bucks for a pair of earrings unless I find them absolutely awesome. Again, I don't like paying a lot for anything which I don't find is worth it. I am a student after all and I like thinking before spending. This pair cost me only Rs.445, that is roughly 8$. And I think they are beautiful and versatile. I have another new buy hiding in these photos which I will show you in the next post. Let's see if you can spot what the other new buy is.

Can't wait for the day when I don't have to justify everything I buy in my head!

It takes time

The title is not supposed to be cryptic at all. Durga Puja is over and I have had a few days of fun; I have binged and I have walked (the cabs were useful too only when they weren't demanding 30 or 80 bucks in addition to whatever the meter charged!) around hopping from the pandals I wanted to see to restaurants to my friend's house where I crashed for a night. I feel like I have been sleeping since then. I need to catch up with everyones' blog.

I haven't yet sorted through all the photos I have taken. But here are a few shots from the 1st(i.e,Shasthi; the days are actually numbered from Mahalaya which is taken as day 1; shasthi is the 6th day, the day the actual rituals basically start from) day out. I have realised how shaky the photos come out when I have to hold the camera. I would die (well not literally) for a dslr.

I got another haircut.this time from the salon.there are no outfits in this post but I will put 1 up shortly.

Mini Arm Party

Do you guys know what an arm party is? The term was perhaps first used by The Man Repeller to describe the unique way of stacking up your arms with a plethora of bands and bangles in many shapes and patterns. Most often there is a theme. I remember on my college fresher's day wearing a bunch of bangles in different textures on my left arm. This week's BDIB challenge of Pretty Shiny Sparkly is to rock out an arm party. Since I couldn't take part in the last one I was determined to take part in this. Today was a friend's birthday and it was a casual lunch. With a casual attire I wore a themed Silver & Gold arm party. I already wear 4 rings; 2 silver ones on my left hand and 2 gold ones on my right. All married Indian women traditionally are supposed to have an arm party going on everyday; but with changing times this has changed and women wear what they like now. Some wear just a couple of thin gold bangles others choose to stick with their set of "shankha and pola". Even the "shankha and pola" come in different varieties; some are plain and some have delicate gold patterns which may or may not come with stone work or enamel work. Indians love their fair share of all things gold and bling and excess when it comes to jewellery :-D!
